Black Lives Matter (BLM) received almost $83 billion in donations from various corporations, according to a new report. This also elicits questions about where the money went.
The Claremont Institute’s Center for the American Way of Life disclosed this in a March 14 op-ed published in Newsweek, saying that “companies and corporations pledged or contributed an astonishing $82.9 billion to the BLM movement and related causes.” This amount also included more than $123 million directly given to BLM parent organizations.
Breitbart elaborated on the piece, naming several companies in Claremont’s report that donated to BLM.
Firms part of the military-industrial complex were among BLM donors. Raytheon contributed $25 million to the movement, followed by Boeing that gave $15.6 million. Northrop Grumman was the smallest contributor in the group, giving $25 million to BLM.
Big Tech firms also pitched in to the leftist woke movement, with Apple giving $100 million and Amazon supplying BLM with $169.5 million in cash. Microsoft, meanwhile, contributed $250,000 to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, a bail fund for BLM rioters arrested by police.
Finance and banking giants also contributed huge amounts to BLM, with asset management giant BlackRock donating $810 million. This was followed by Mastercard ($500 million), Wells Fargo ($210 million), American Express ($50 million), Morgan Stanley ($30 million), Bank of America ($18.25 million) and Goldman Sachs ($10.1 million).
Retail giant Walmart gave $100 million to BLM, while the Tokyo-based Pokemon Company – which is in charge of the “Pokemon” franchise – donated $200,000. The Walt Disney Company and Nike, which made headlines for their pivots toward wokeism and subsequent losses, were also named as BLM donors in the report. The sportswear brand gave $90 million, while the entertainment giant contributed $8.8 million.
All in all, the total donations to BLM amounting to $82.9 billion “is more than the GDP of 46 African countries,” the institute said. (Related: Woke corporations shamed into donating eye-watering $83 BILLION to Black Lives Matter.)
The Newsweek piece pointed out the ways BLM was using the money given by donors.
It said the organization is “investing tens of millions of dollars to support future operations; purchasing luxury real estate; engaging in nepotism; disbursing grants to dozens of BLM chapters and revolutionary organizations; and operating a PAC [political action committee] to ‘elect progressive community leaders, activists, and working-class candidates fighting for Black liberation.'”
“Local BLM chapters are spending millions on activism and initiatives to defund police departments. BLM At School is indoctrinating children around the country in critical race theory and queer theory, teaching them to hate themselves, their peers and their country. And left-wing nonprofits are effecting whole-scale societal change too radical for normal legislative avenues, constituting a form of shadow governance.”
True enough, the New York Post reported in May of last year that BLM spent at least $12 million on luxury properties in Los Angeles and Toronto in Canada’s Ontario province. The Post‘s report was based on the group’s filings with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
The Toronto-based nonprofit M4BJ purchased the former headquarters of the Communist Party of Canada using BLM money, renaming it the Wildseed Center for Art and Activism. The 10,000-square-foot property located in downtown Toronto, intended for use as the headquarters of BLM Canada, was purchased for $6.3 million.
The money used to buy the Toronto property was part of an $8 million “out of country grant,” according to the tax filing. However, it remains unclear where the grant’s remaining $1.7 million went.
Aside from the Toronto home, BLM had purchased a luxury property in the Bahamas – located at the same resort where golfer Tiger Woods and singer Justin Timberlake have homes. Another sprawling mansion in Los Angeles, California was purchased by the group in 2020. The $6 million Studio City home included a sound stage, a swimming pool and six bedrooms.
